Dear Friends of Calvary Camp,
In 1973, Father John Thomas persuaded Anne Muhl to work with him at Sheldon Calvary Camp. She agreed to come – for one summer. At the end of 2012, thirty-nine years, four children and five grandchildren (so far) as campers and staff later, she has decided to retire. Mrs. Muhl will never stop being a significant member of the Calvary Camp community. She will, however, pass along the day to day work of administration and finance where she has served faithfully for all these years.
Generations of campers, parents, and staff have been touched by her presence. She has been the calm, reassuring voice on the phone, the source of stability in times of leadership transition, the wise listening ear for countless young people. She is cherished as “Mom” by many. Her ministry at camp has far transcended the work of registration and bookkeeping she came to do. And yet, financial stewardship is one of the great gifts she has offered. Always keeping a careful eye, helping board and staff to be realistic in spending, she has managed resources to insure that the mission of Calvary Camp could be sustained and expanded and to make camp available to all children.
This year, as we seek donations to our Annual Appeal, we ask you to consider making your gift in honor of Anne Muhl and her extraordinary service to Sheldon Calvary Camp. The money received from these gifts will go to the Building Fund which she has overseen for decades. Through the generosity of the wider Calvary Camp family, we have been able to keep camp tuition affordable and to offer financial assistance where it is needed so that no child is kept away. To that end we were able to serve more campers this summer than ever before. We have been resourceful with funds and proactive in maintaining and improving our facilities to allow campers the best possible experience. The thoughtful use of financial resources continues, influenced by the prudent and tireless work of Anne Muhl. Whether you are a parent of campers, a former camper or staff member, a current staff member, or a friend, your gift is essential to continuing the camp’s mission. Whether you have known Mrs. Muhl for your whole lifetime, or have interacted with her only briefly, your gift to this year’s Annual Appeal will recognize her immeasurable contribution to the life of Calvary Camp.
Please join us in gratitude for the ministry of Anne Muhl, and in our commitment to a future profoundly shaped by her generosity and grace.
