General: Day Camp offers a condensed version of Traditional Overnight Camp into a 5 day program for children ages 7-12. Our program seeks to integrate campers and staff in activities and experiences designed to build community. During Day Camp this community is starts with a small group model where campers of similar ages are grouped together with a number of staff members. This group, affectionately named in conjunction with the theme of that year’s program, develops a deep bond as they spend the morning doing activities together for the entire week. Day Camp falls in line with the 4th of July each year and as a result we have special events to celebrate this summer holiday that are outside of the typical day’s schedule.
Activity Rotation: The morning of day camp is broken down into four 40 minute blocks where groups rotate between instructional swim lessons, instructional athletics, fine arts, and nature. In addition to the staff members leading each group, campers see the same instructors each day at the activities. We believe Calvary Camp is a perfect place to learn life-long skills like basic swimming and fundamentals of traditional games. Throughout each activity sportsmanship, team-oriented thinking, and self exploration are integrated.
Elective Choice: In the afternoon campers participate in two 1 hour blocks of electives. Electives are specific program areas where campers can choose between swimming at the beach or pool, tennis, team games and archery. Campers sign up for these electives at the beginning of each day.
Small Group Time: Building community is an integral part of the Calvary Camp experience. Since campers leave each day, we want to take the opportunity to slow down and spend time in the small group setting to reflect on the fast paced day. So, every afternoon before check-out, the small group gathers, has a snack together and reflects on their day.
Campfire and Chapel: Each day begins with a campfire, or morning rally, so campers can begin to learn the same songs performed at Traditional Overnight Camp. At the end of the week, day campers can experience a shorter version of a Calvary Camp chapel service as a culminating point to the week together.
Extended Care: Day Camp is from 9 am – 4 pm Monday through Friday. Extended care is available for an hour before and after this time for additional $6 per hour.
